Louis Andreas - Previously Featured Artist

Louis Andreas was featured in an exhibition we held this past summer. However, we still have several of his panoramas in the Gallery plus a catalogue of his available images.

Louis, an Oblate missionary, has traveled extensively in western Canada and has perfected the technique of panoramic landscape scenes. He started a career as a graphics artist in 1968 and to help him in his new profession his parents bought him a new 35mm Pentax camera.
Armed with the camera, a half hour crash course in composition, a roll of Kodachrome film and a healthy dose of excitement he set out on his first photographic outing.

Louis says, “One of the first images that I took was of an old bridge, and I got lucky because the result went beyond the realm of ‘just a picture’ to a photograph containing a sense of awe and mystery”.

He added, “That early experience inspired me always to look hard at the ordinary and hone his technical skills to capture those magical images”.

During a trip in 2006 he realized that the expansive landscape scenes could not be captured in the ordinary way. Inspired by the panoramic photographs of the past and the technology available today he proceeded to take multiple images of that scene. Later with the help of a computer he assembled them in a wide panoramic vista. These wide panoramic vistas capture nature’s grandeur and make his work awe inspiring.
