Prints Galore

Cam has been taking pictures for over thirty-eight years and three years ago opened his own business called Barbwire Images to market his work. Cam says that the three passions in his life are family, photography, and hunting (in that order).

 

He indicated, “Much of my photography is done while I am pursuing the outdoor life. To some hunting might be an undesirable hobby but it lets me witness the true beauty of nature, observe the behaviour of animals in the wild, and photograph them and their surroundings”.

 

The advent of digital photography has been of considerable importance for Smethurst. He explains, “digital photography has allowed me to enhance my abilities as a photographer as it has reduced the cost of developing proofs so that it virtually non-existent and it has allowed me to develop photographs in the ways that used to be limited to those with their own darkroom”.

 

He added, “living in rural Alberta gives me no end of buildings, farms and landscapes to photograph. It’s not unusual for me to rise before the sun, take a drive or walk, and take 500 to 1000 photos. I often return to the same spot to photograph the same building at different times of the day or in different seasons”.
